Full color, grayscale or black and white images can be scanned. The scanner can process images up to 36 inches wide on media up to 40 inches wide. Images and media can be of any length, as the scanner is continuous feed. Engineering drawings, architectural drawings, aerial photographs, maps and other items can be scanned. They are converted from an image on paper to a digital raster image that can be viewed and manipulated on a computer. A wide variety of input media can be processed. A typical D-size engineering drawing scanned with default settings will generate a digital raster file of about 150 KB. Since one CD-ROm can hold about 630 MB of data, the number of drawings per CD-ROM is about 4,200. Scanning drawings to CD-ROM results in a substantial savings in storage space. A scanned raster image can be used with AutoCAD and other CAD software for "heads up" drafting. Also, a part of the raster image may be overlaid and that part drawn with CAD. Productivity in CAD areas is increased. Scanned raster images produce good printed copies. A print from a scanned image of an old mylar or sepia drawing will often look better than the original document. Prints from scanned images are usually better than Xerox copies. A free test will be performed using some of your engineering drawings to create scanned raster images on CD-ROM. You can view, manipulate and print the images on your computer and judge the results. |
